The Gold Star
In the late sixties a young boy hitchhiking aimlessly encounters “El Vagabundo Loco” while camping on the floor of the Grand Canyon. Winter just around the bend, the wild man suggests Mexico, warm, cheap and nobody asks any questions. Turning south the boy passes a long season of adventure wandering in the back country of our Southern neighbor. Come spring he returns to his homeland where he must make a fateful decision, what to do about the draft.
Sara Tyler lives in a cottage behind a farmhouse in Klamath Falls, Oregon with her withdrawn hippie mother. The reclusive couple in the main house are seldom seen or heard.
